Welcome to my mediation practice
I facilitate a well prepared, well contained process in which clients co-create individualised solutions to their conflicts. I specialise in divorce settlement agreements and parenting plans.
What I offer
Who I am
I'm an accredited divorce mediator. I hold a PhD in Sociology and have a decade of experience working in people-centred professions as a researcher and a teacher. Let me help you to reach an uncontested divorce settlement or draw up a parenting plan that is sensitive to the needs of your family.
What I help with
I can help with divorce settlement agreements (assisting you to get to an uncontested divorce), parenting plans, and section 22 agreements (parental responsibilities and rights agreements).
Who might need me
Families going through a divorce; Parents and/or extended families looking to draw up a parenting plan; Organisations who want to assist their members by educating themselves about family mediation as an alternative to acrimonious litigation such as shuls, mosques and churches; Social workers, psychologists, and family law practitioners looking for alternatives to litigation for their clients; Social welfare NPOs and NGOs.
How I work
Our process begins with a phone call, where I get consent to go ahead. I then gather the relevant materials from each person involved and register them, at which point a deposit for the process is due. Once this phase is concluded I spend time one-on-one with each person preparing them for mediation. Although I do not provide them with legal advice, I share any relevant legal information with them, get to know their individual story, and explain the mediation process to them, preparing them for what to expect. We then move together into joint sessions in which everyone who is involved in the process meets at my rooms in Blouberg. I take notes during this process about decisions reached and other relevant information and once it is concluded I draft an agreement. After this, those involved can comment on and request changes and/or return to in person mediation if there are matters outstanding. Once a final agreement has been reached the document is made into a legal instrument by lodging it at court or the office of the family advocate depending on what is appropriate.
